THE BREED
In 1895, Germany formally recognized the Boxer standards and defined the
appearance of the Boxer. Surprisingly, at first, the boxer was defined as being
white in color, but later, white was rejected because the Boxer was utilized by
the police and the dog could be seen at night. The dog had to have a dark
color associated with him to avoid detection.

The Boxer breed exhibits several common characteristics, such as being playful,
energetic, loyal, and family-oriented. Boxers require lots of attention, exercise,
and to be mentally challenged, otherwise, their behavior can lead to destructive
patterns as they tend to find ways to amuse and entertain themselves.

The Boxers appearance seems to be a misleading indicator of their character.
Because of their sturdy make-up and rugged looks, Boxers are often mistaken
to be violent and mean, but in fact, they are gentle and loving. Boxers are also
extremely intelligent animals and tend to learn things quickly. The dogs can and
will think on their own, which makes them seem rather stubborn at times.

In 1915, The American Kennel Club recognized the first Boxer Champion.
